The Most Powerful Voice Is the One You Own
Howdy,
It’s the last day of June. Yes I’ve been on a bit of a theme in the posts this month.
Let me say it straight:
You don’t need a perfect voice to have a powerful one.
I’ve worked with hundreds of singers and speakers over the years, and the most powerful moments never come from flawless notes or polished technique. They come when someone owns their voice—cracks, wobbles, breathiness and all.
Power Isn’t Volume—It’s Ownership
We’re sold this idea that to sing or speak powerfully, we need to be polished. Loud. Perfectly in control.
But the voices that move people the most are often the ones that feel honest.
They might crack, or fall off a note, or forget a line, They are vulnerable, REAL in all their beautiful imperfect human glory. And it gives all of us that same permission
There’s nothing more electric than someone daring to be real in front of you.
I’ve seen students who barely whispered at their first lesson grow into people who could sing one clear, trembling note—and suddenly the whole room goes still. Not because it was “impressive,” but because it was real.
Your Voice Doesn’t Need Fixing
We all carry stories about our voices.
Some of us were told we were too much.
Some of us were told to be quiet.
Some of us were never told we had a voice at all.
So we shrink. We get quiet.
We wait for confidence to show up before we speak.
We think we need to “get better” to ‘improve’  before we’re allowed to express ourselves in public. But What if your voice doesn’t need fixing?
What if it just needs permission?
Technique Matters—but So Does Trust
Yes, I teach breathing. Pitch. Placement. All the technique things.
But that’s not really where the magic lives.
The magic happens when someone starts to trust themselves enough to make a sound.
To say, “This is me.”
That’s ownership. And it’s powerful
Start Where You Are
You don’t have to wait until you feel “ready.”
You don’t have to sound like anyone else.
You just have to have a teeny tiny bit of  willingness to start.
And if that feels terrifying—good. It means you care. It means there’s something real inside you worth listening to.
