Originally explored by the poet Federico García Lorca, duende doesn't translate easily into English. It roughly means "having soul," or possessing an authentic intensity that resonates deeply with listeners.

 Lorca described it as four elements: irrationality, earthiness, a heightened awareness of death, and a bit of the diabolical, a force that rises from within, connecting the performer’s emotions directly with the audience’s own humanity. 

Unlike technical perfection, duende isn’t something you can achieve through practice alone. Instead, it emerges from a willingness to be vulnerable and authentic, tapping into experiences of struggle, passion, joy, and loss—and channeling that honesty into your music.
